Yan: I have struggled with this for a long time, and still cannot find meaning to the words. The ancient word implies 'cord, rope, string', or 'restrain, restrict'... it appears to be speaking of how a string or rope can restrain or restrict another thing, but, the sentence's following words do not support the idea... 'not able-to name, again return to nothing substance'. And more difficult, is that the 'string' word is duplicated, used twice before the other words. I tried 'restrict restrain', but the act of restraining, has a name, and, has explanations of how the restraining works... strengths of string, strengths of what is being restrained, and strengths of what a retrained thing is restrained to. The global religion has a lot of math explaining restraining... unless the author did not know much about string strength, then, the sentence makes no sense to me...
Alo: Dictionaries... poor... misleading... sometimes, using same word twice, means something different... ancient slang cannot be known today... but, think, of what strings were used for, in ancient times... ropes held, heavy things... strings, held light things... rope can restrict boat to dock... string, can restrain mouse to dock...
Yan: Okay... and, yes, I had thought of similar things, of how different things are tied and bound to other things, but still that makes no sense in the sentence... 'string rope not able-to name'? But the string and rope were just named... also named the restraining and restricting...
Alo: String, also used, for measuring... old generations, often used a string, to measure lengths... lengths of wood, circumferences of spheres... circumferences of boxes... 'string' can also mean 'measure'...
Yan: Okay... then, 'string measure', or, 'measure string'?
Alo: How, about... just, 'measure measure'?
Yan: 'Measure measure' sounds peculiar... 'measure measure not able-to name'... makes no sense to me.
Alo: Easy example... shoe string... use string to measure lake table...
Yan: Seriously?
Alo: Yes... use shoe string, measure table...
Yan: Okay... the table measures about three shoe strings deep, about five shoe strings wide, and about two strings tall...
Alo: Now, measure measure...
Yan: ... Not, understood...
Alo: I apologize for my chuckle, but, measure the measuring...
Yan: Aha! ...oh, but... I cannot measure the measuring... no way to measure measure... nothing there to measure...
Alo: Precisely... you have now translated the sentence, and understand.
Yan: ...'Measure measure, not able-to name, again return to nothing substance'... yes, that now makes sense... some... although, darkly...
Alo: Compare... outsiders, they measure the exterior boundaries of Nature, and then believe that they know all of the inside... but, no outsider can see, that they cannot see what happened in-between the measuring... to outsiders, the measure of measure, is, a nothing substance.
Yan: Okay...
Alo: Math... point A, to point B... what exists in-between?
Yan: ...Well, according to math, and, according to the global religion, nothing exists in-between points, else it could be measured...
Alo: Precisely... I used to often fret on the topic... man, measures wall, claims to know wall, but cannot say what exists between the measurements... outsiders cannot explain what happens in-between measurements... global religion, measures many things, still cannot describe anything except outside measurements... outsiders, they live in a flat world... nothing exists in-between points A and B... they cannot measure their measure... attempting to measure their measure, results in a tower of measures... no end... proves math measure false...
De: No durations... no awareness... no consciousness... no feeling of self...
Alo: Yes, precisely... the outsiders, measure, but, are not aware of what happened when measuring... to outsiders, a void existed... a nothing substance...
Yan: Okay... but I do have an idea of what happened in-between my measuring... vague to me, but still there... give it a name... call it... awareness, of life... aware of being alive...
Alo: Common for our people to be conscious of life... life does not disappear in-between points A and B... Nature, does not disappear between points A and B... outsiders, cannot imagine in-between...
Yan: Then this appears to be similar to what the ancient words pointed at... to be aware, to be conscious between all events...
Alo: Perhaps, but... I am not familiar with the ancient words you speak of, and so, I cannot speak with confidence of what was written, but... if the author were conscious, then, he might have known...
Yan: The words, are of a different system, different than the other ancient words... the different system is popularly believed by outsiders to be mysterious... something, about, like, magical powers... many people follow the different system, the people hoping to achieve what the author spoke of...
Alo: If people, follow, and desire to achieve, then, that means, the people do not possess... that means, the people, are outsiders...
De: Empties...
Alo: Yes... nothing inside... nothing, glows... no outward warmth... no life...
Yan: But then, if our people do this thing, naturally, or at least partly do this thing naturally, then that becomes yet another contrast to learn from...
Alo: Yes... contrast not teach, contrast not instruct... contrast as, the ancient words... not 'create way it call teaching', but, rather, 'create way, it call to-see-and-learn-from'... 'teach' is an outsider way, a thing to memorize... 'learn-from' is our way... we see, smell, hear, feel, taste, observe, analyze, remain conscious of ourselves... learn from Nature's way...
Yan: Outsiders' translations of the different system's words, say that the words point to, a teaching, that the correct way is to follow ancient masters... translations say, the teaching, is the way to attain awareness of what exists in-between points of measure...
Alo: Ah... common... translations remain believing that self can be found by looking at other people... claim, become master by looking at the back of a master's head... always follow... but here, string, wrapped around apple... what exists in-between?
Yan: I am not sure of all, but I am confident that there is a lot that exists... and surely more than I am aware of...
Alo: Measure, of mental cognition... the different system of words, appears to point to little things... only, as if, an awareness of being aware... but, that is only as if a first step... to compete in a foot race, requires first getting out of bed... measure measure, is as, the getting out of bed... the being aware of what occurs in-between the in-between, that, then, is as, a beginning...
De: No boundaries...
Alo: Yes... no boundaries of only measuring surfaces and directions... also, no boundaries of only measuring the measure... but, also, what if the words did imply 'restrain restrain'?
Yan: Ah, yes... restrain the restrain... interesting thought, but, that is merely reducing the quantity and intensity of restraining, very easy to recognize, a simple self-measure of outward action...
Alo: Simple to us, but, maybe not simple to outsiders... notice also the differences of directions and methods of applying...
Yan: Yes... measure measure, remains of a uniform process, merely repeated at different sequences... while restrain restrain uses one direction, then reverses, holding both directions simultaneously, as if pulling and pushing at the same time, while also inwardly feeling the tensions, judging the aimed-for tension while the applied tension is in progress... weights of push and pull then land upon the ratio that concludes the tension is what is aimed for...
Jun: 'Ratio nature, it call way'...
Yan: Precisely...
Alo: Use similar for measure measure... a little practice makes it easy to put into words...
Yan: But now I am more troubled... makes no difference how I translate the sentence, whether I use 'restrain' or 'measure', still there is no 'not able-to name, again return to nothing substance'... either I am completely missing the sentence's meaning, or, else, maybe the first two words might actually mean something completely different than what the dictionaries claim...
Alo: Agreed...
